The third annual HBCU Legacy Bowl turned out to be a defensive battle. Team Gaither beat out Team Robinson 10 to 6, but there were standouts from both teams. Alabama A&M’s Zareon Hayes stole the show with four sacks in the all-star game.
The HBCU Legacy Bowl is for draft-eligible players from all HBCU schools. Its goal is to showcase players from HCBU institutions to NFL scouts that would usually go unnoticed. All eyes are on Hayes after his performance this evening though. Hayes was a second-team All-SWAC recipient this season. He finished his collegiate career with 97 total tackles and 7.5 sacks. He recorded season highs against Arkansas-Pine Bluff with 12 tackles and 2.5 sacks back in September. Lower-level college football players may go unnoticed come draft time, but after today’s performance, all 32 teams now know the name Zareon Hayes.
